108 FOCARS Inauguration

The ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad inaugurated the 108th Foundation Course for Agricultural Research Service (FOCARS) at the Academy on 2nd July, 2018. The FOCARS is a three-month training programme of Agricultural Research Service probationers who have cleared the Agricultural Research Service Examination of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research of the ICAR. This training comprising of different components to build the competencies of the young ARS scientist who, belonging to various specialized disciplines of agricultural sciences will be placed in various research institutes of the ICAR at the end of this training programme.

This mega training programme being attended by 135 probationers, was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Dalwai, IAS, Chairman, National Rainfed Area Authority, New Delhi and Chairman, Committee on Doubling Farmers’ Income, New Delhi. Delivering his presidential address, Dr. Dalwai, himself a PhD in agricultural economics, recounted the lives and times of all time great scientists like Dr. Norman Borlaug, Dr. M. S. Swaminathan and Dr. Vergheese Kurien. He talked at length between destiny and attitude and how hard work will lead a young scientist to success  and glory. Srinivas Rao, Director of the Academy felicitated the Chief guest and delivered the Director’s address. He emphasized on positive thinking and proactive involvement of the young scientists in all spheres of agriculture research and development. Dr. S.K. Soam, Joint Director in-Charge, spoke on the activities of the academy.

Dr. P. Ramesh, Dr. M. Krishnan and Dr. Alok Kumar are the Programme Directors of this training programme at the academy during 2 July to 29 September, 2018.
