Bioinformatics in Agriculture: National Workshop concludes at ICAR-NAARM 27th July, 2019

In view of globally increasing importance of bioinformatics, a National workshop on Bioinformatics in Agriculture was organized at ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM) Hyderabad during 26-27 July 2019. In addition to expert deliberations, the workshop also covered theory and hands-on practical sessions on various software and tools on various topics related to emerging requirements of bioinformatics tools in agriculture and allied sectors.

The participants also did brainstorming on four specific issues in bioinformatics viz. constraints and opportunities in bioinformatics research; IPRs in bioinformatics; bioinformatics in teaching and education; data sharing, access and protection in bioinformatics research. Each group brought out few recommendations to the above mentioned issues, which along with other primary and secondary data would constitute basic input for developing a research policy on the subject. The resource persons for moderating group discussions were drawn from National and State Govt. Institutions besides CGIAR. There were 22 participants from various ICAR institutes and SAUs.  Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM distributed certificates to the participants and delivered valedictory address.
