Director General, ICAR Delivers Padmasri Dr. MV Rao Memorial Lecture at ICAR-NAARM
Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR delivered Padma Shri Dr M.V. Rao Memorial Lecture on “Dream to Destination” and inspired 135 young scientists of 108th FOCARS and motivated them to serve the poor farmers of the country on 22nd September 2018 at ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad This programme was attended by Dr J.K. Jena, DDG (Fisheries & Animal Sciences), ICAR; Padma Shri Dr E.A. Siddiq, Former DDG (CS), ICAR; Dr A. Padma Raju, Former Vice Chancellor, ANGRAU; Dr B. Venkateswarlu, Former VC, VNMKV; Dr V. Praveen Rao, VC, PJTSAU; Dr V. Damodar Naidu, VC, ANGRAU, family members of Dr M.V. Rao, Dr D. Rama Rao, Former Director, NAARM, Directors of local ICAR Institutes – IIRR, IIOR, DPR, IIMR, NRC Meat, CRIDA, ATARI, Regional Centres of IIMR, NBPGR; PC, AICRPDA; Representatives of ICRISAT, Seed Companies, Faculty of NAARM and staff of different ICAR institutes.
Dr T. Mohapatra while delivering Dr M.V. Rao Memorial Lecture highlighted the contribution of Dr M.V. Rao in country’s blue revolution, and achievements. He said “The budding scientists should learn from the life of Dr M.V. Rao on how to trade from dream to destination without compromising on both personal front and professional front”. He narrated the results of rainbow revolutions aptly and appreciated the right policy interventions of the Govt. of India. He explained this phenomenon with example of wheat and pulse production in the country. While narrating the pulse revolution he indicated that it was due to good planning and execution of planned activities such as seed hubs and pulse procurement thus countries pulse requirements were met in the recent past. Climate resilient technologies and interventions of genetic biotechnology are frontier areas to meet the future challenges, he stressed. He advocated the young scientists to pursue research agriculture profession with pride and dedication. He advised to have role models, contributed significantly and also contemporary scientists who are committed to the cause and emulate from them to reach such heights.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM briefed about Dr M.V. Rao Memorial lecture by Dr T. Mohapatra and remembered leaders of Indian agriculture – Dr MS Swwaminathan, Dr Chopra, Dr Paroda and other scientists in crop improvement program of the country and contributions to food security of the country.
Dr M. Srinivas Rao, son of Dr M.V. Rao presented the video film and explained the life story of Dr M.V. Rao. On this occasion, Dr T. Mohapatra participated in the greening the NAARM campus programme – ‘Swachta Hi Seva’ – programme and released the Bulletin on “Swachha Bharat Abhiyan” at ICAR-NAARM’. Prior to that Dr S.K. Soam, Joint Director (I/c) welcomed the participants and Dr P. Ramesh, Coordinator, 108th FOCARS proposed vote of thanks.
