“IGNITING YOUNG MINDS BY INNOVATIVE FARMER ENTREPRENEURS” KISAN DIWAS (FARMERS’ DAY) celebrated by ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad
ICAR-NAARM celebrated National Farmers’ Day (KISAN DIWAS) on 23 December 2019. Besides paying rich tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Chaudhary Charan Singh, the Academy celebrated the auspicious day with the theme “IGNITING YOUNG MINDS BY INNOVATIVE FARMERS”. The celebrations aimed to create awareness among young girls and boys on the importance of farmers and farming for a healthy and prosperous nation, and to inspire them to take up agriculture as a career option.
The day was celebrated by inviting two innovative farmer entrepreneurs – Shri Bachu Veera Reddy and Shri Hari Babu to motivate and inspire younger generations on the prospects of ‘new-generation farming’ as a career option among over 100 students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Vidhyashram, NIRD Campus, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad and P. Obul Reddy Public School, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Both the farmers emphatically stressed on the need to infuse young blood in farming sector, well supported by their rich and satisfying experience as innovative farmer and entrepreneur. Shri. Bachu Veera Reddy is B. Sc. (Agri) graduate turned in to an agripreneurs and has been in farming business for over four decades. Shri Hari Babu is a strong believer and practitioner of natural and organic farming. These two innovative farmer entrepreneurs have won several awards at national, regional and state levels in recognition of their contributions to promoting eco-friendly farming for healthy living.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of the Academy felicitated the two innovative farmers on this occasion. In his presidential address, Dr Rao complemented the farmers for their immense contributions. He persuaded the students about several ways of being connected to farmers and farming through career options like Scientist, Teacher, Entrepreneur and Civil Servant. Dr. S. K. Soam, Joint Director graced the function.
Dr. Bharat S. Sontakki, Head, Extension Systems Management Division welcomed the gathering and briefed about importance of farmers and farming for the national development. The celebrations were facilitated by Extension Systems Management Division, Training Unit and Farm Section of the Academy.
