Work Experience
Dr. B. Nirmala joined ICAR-NAARM as Principal Scientist (Agricultural Business Policy) on 22 January 2024. She belongs to the 2007 batch (80th FOCARS) of the Agricultural Research Service (ICAR) and, before joining the Academy, served at ICAR–Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad. She received training in Food Value Chain Analysis in Thailand. Over the course of her career, she has conducted fifteen research projects and has undertaken extensive field research across diverse rice-growing regions of India. Dr. Nirmala has worked closely with multidisciplinary research teams and has made significant scholarly contributions. Her publications include 88 research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals, 23 technical articles, 14 books, 33 book chapters (including three published by the International Rice Research Institute), seven technical bulletins, and 22 training manuals.
As Principal Investigator of technology dissemination programmes, she coordinated 12,468 frontline demonstrations across the country, facilitating the adoption of improved technologies and helping farmers reduce cultivation costs. As a coordinator and associate, she has organized 65 training programmes for farmers, researchers, extension personnel, and other stakeholders. She has also supervised and guided fourteen postgraduate and three doctoral students from different universities. Dr. Nirmala is the recipient of several honours, including the Dr. R. T. Doshi Award for Best Research Paper from the Agricultural Economics Research Association, the Young Scientist Award from the Society of Extension Education, and recognition as an Associate Fellow and Fellow of the Telangana Academy of Sciences. She is also a Fellow of the Mobilization Society and a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, India.
