Shri GS. Shekhawat, Hon’ble MOS Participates Interactive Session at ICAR-NAARM

     Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India emphasised that the priority of the government is to make agriculture profitable by reducing the input cost and increasing the remunerative prices to enhance farmers’ income. Hon’ble Minister strongly felt that listening to stakeholders will enhance the government’s functioning and decision making process. He had an interactive meeting with farmers, farmer associations, scientists of all the ICAR Institutes located at Hyderabad, officials, students, startups, State Agri-Allied Sector Universities etc. at ICAR- NAARM on 9th March, 2019; attended by more than 350 farmers, scientists, officers, faculty and students. Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM in his welcome address narrated different Government of India schemes and their benefits to the farming community. However, he requested the participants to provide suggestions on these program and new programs for enhancing farmers income.

The issues in making agriculture profitable are market infrastructure, farmer centric crop insurance, Minimum Support Price, support to organic farming including input cost, organic producer market; area based drip irrigation subsidy considering the climatic factors, promotion of integrated farming system, organic food to all citizen, affordable price of HYV, fluctuations in sericulture price, inclusion of agriculture in MNREGA, FPO promotion, village agri-clinics, soil testing promotion, value addition, support to poultry industry, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to larger farmers and food processing besides intensifying awareness on Govt Schemes among farmers
