‘ICAR-NAARM as a Think Tank of ICAR’: Scoping Workshop Inaugurated by Trilochan Mohapatra

Indian agriculture is pivotal in meeting the national goals of Doubling Farmers’ Income by 2022, making $5 trillion Indian economy or meeting several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, agriculture sector is becoming more complex, knowledge intensive, technologically challenging and globally integrated. To address such diverse challenges, the Council desires the Academy to maintain a futuristic vision and become a ‘Think Tank’ in the field of agriculture. Therefore, to delineate the roadmap for transitioning the Academy to credible Think Tank of ICAR, the Academy organized the Scoping Workshop on Aug 31, 2019.

The workshop was graced by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR. In his address, he complemented the Academy and suggested to deliberate on devising institutional framework and mechanism for transforming NAARM as Think Tank. He also nominated Dr. J.C. Katyal, former DDG (Education), ICAR to chair the panel discussion and advised to submit the recommendations to the Council. Dr. Katyal in his remarks elaborated on innovation management as primary goal of the Think Tank. The experts invited for panel discussion included Dr. P.K. Joshi, Dr. D. Rama Rao and Dr. N.H. Rao- former Directors of NAARM, Dr. B. Venkateshwarlu, former Vice Chancellor, VNMKV Parbhani. Besides, DDG (Engineering and NRM) Dr. Alugusundaram, several distinguished researchers as well as former Directors and Directors of several ICAR institutes, as wells as representatives from other organizations viz. MANAGE, NIRD, PJTSAU, ANGRAU, and WALMATRI participated in the deliberations.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM welcomed all the guests and briefed about the objectives of the workshop and informed the house about the efforts undertaken by the Academy in the recent past in this direction.
