Work Experience
Dr. Sona Yengkokpam worked as a Scientist & Senior Scientist (Aquaculture) at ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Regional Centre, Guwahati, Assam from 2008 to 2024 and joined the Academy on 18th March, 2024. In her scientific career, she worked in different Institutional and Externally funded projects in the areas of pen aquaculture in wetlands for enhancing fish production and improving livelihood of fishers, validation of enclosure culture as climate resilient technology, study of technical and economic feasibility of cage aquaculture in wetlands, use of aquatic macrophytes for low-cost feed formulation for carps, breeding and rearing of indigenous inland ornamental fishes and nutrient profiling of indigenous fishes of Northeast India. She contributed to various extension activities through conduction of Training programmes, Workshops, Awareness programmes, Meetings, Exhibitions and Television documentaries. She is the recipient of Young Scientist Award, Best poster presentation, Best oral presentation, National merit scholarships, Gold medalist in B.F.Sc. and rank holder (5th rank) in state matriculation examination. She published 40 research papers in National (14) and International (26) journals, 20 book chapters, 5 books, one policy paper, several posters, technical manuals/bulletins, leaflets and popular articles till date. She contributed in reviewing International journals (Aquaculture, Aquaculture Nutrition, Aquaculture Reports, Aquaculture International and Journal of Applied Animal Sciences).
